BCI Ghana Walk for the Cure makes the fight against cancer public. We need your support.
Breast Care International (BCI) walk for the cure, now a permanent annual feature, premiered in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, in 2011 with a repeat performance the following year. It was then moved to Accra in 2013, Sunyani in 2014, Takoradi in 2015, back to Kumasi in 2016, Koforidua in 2017, Tamale in 2018 and Cape Coast in 2019. The previous walks recorded huge participation of 11,000, 20,000, 25,000, 28,000, 30,000, 35,000, 37,000 and 40,000 people respectively.
It is pertinent to note that His Excellency Ex-President John Agyekum Kuffour, Mrs. Theresah Kuffour, Her Excellency Mrs. Rebecca Akufo Addo and His Excellency, Ex-President John Dramani Mahama, personally participated and graced the occasion of the previous events held. The October, 2020 walk would be have been the tenth in succession had it not been the corona virus pandemic.
With the ever-increasing rate of cancers across the continent and in Ghana in particular, it has become necessary to join forces in this fight. It is well a known fact that cancer is now killing more people in Africa than HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria combined. Due to lack of awareness about breast cancer and late reporting of the cases, many cancer patients get very little intervention and support, which explains why most cancer deaths occur in Africa. To effectively fight this, effective education and awareness creation must be put in place to help Ghanaian women and men to be aware of breast cancer and not scared.
Event date: 7th October, 2023.
